The Group

Energy management for Italian and foreign Group companies is one of the Shared Services managed by Finmeccanica Group Services, in close collaboration with the Energy Manager community of the Group Companies.

In specifics, the Energy Management Model is divided into two macro intervention areas:

• Energy Supply: includes all activities related to the management of energy expenditure, through the monitoring of energy markets, the definition of supply strategies, the negotiation of supply contracts, the analysis of energy demand and Bill Audit activities;
• Energy Demand: activity focused on the diversification and reduction of demand, through the definition and management of Energy Efficiency Interventions and the identification of economic-financial instruments aimed at promoting investment in this area.

Finmeccanica Group Services also works in the area of the promotion and diffusion of renewable sources, supporting Companies in identifying technologies, market players, as well as the evaluation of feasibility studies and in the preparation of the documents necessary for gaining access to incentives.

For this reason during 2009, FGS launched the Group Photovoltaic Programme which, through a detailed analysis of the surfaces available inside the plants, will allow building energy production systems in the main Finmeccanica sites.

All the intervention areas are interconnected, aimed at minimizing consumption and overall costs through a self-financing mechanism: the savings derived from the centralization of negotiation and control of supply will in fact be used to carry out energy efficiency studies and plant design interventions. The idea is to generate a virtuous cycle that converts the “spot” benefits derived from the Group’s greater negotiating power into permanent benefits, through targeted investments capable of reducing Group energy consumption and diversifying energy supply sources.

The experience gained in the production sites has also led to carrying out several initiatives for raising the personnel’s awareness towards a conscious use of energy resources.

Thesecond edition of Finmeccanica Energy Day was held on 30 November 2009. The event is organized in the main Group sites by Finmeccanica with the support of Finmeccanica Group Services for promoting energy savings and the development of renewable energy sources among all Finmeccanica Group employees in Italy, the UK and the USA. During the event, which was also sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of the Environment, ENEA and FIRE, the agreements signed in favor of Group Company employees for household energy and gas contracts, the energy certification of homes and the installation of home photovoltaic systems were promoted. The money saved, the result of energy saving measures put into practice by employees of the Companies, was donated to a Solidarity Project.
