Solidarity Projects

Solidarity has no boundaries. Neither geographical, nor political, nor religious. It cannot afford sector-based approaches or to be limited in scope.

With this principle deeply rooted in its essential values, Finmeccanica directs its own charity activities, necessarily in the plural, to wherever needs are most urgent and evident - such as the case of Aids-ravaged Africa or the reconstruction following the earthquake in L’Aquila - and in support of 'lesser' situations just as worthy of care, attention and broader treatment.

The actions which Finmeccanica generates on its own behalf as a company, keeping faith with a role of active participation and sensitive to social issues, are often based on a relationship of collaboration and mutual trust with bodies active in the field of solidarity.

What Finmeccanica does directly in regard to solidarity and social support will be supplemented by on-going, productive work in raising the awareness of the people who work for the Group. As well as the increase in direct support for a number of emergency situations, this has the result of spreading a mindset that is more attentive to social issues, and ensures that, in concrete day-to-day operations, the undertaking of a company becomes the inheritance of the men and women who work there, a background of awareness and desire, multiplying their energy.

Mwana Simba, Finmeccanica for Africa

In ancient Roman times, maps of the unexplored areas of Africa and the Middle East bore the Latin phrase "hic sunt leones" (there are lions here) - the Roman way of saying that they knew little about the flora and fauna of the area beyond the intuition that there would be wild animals. Some scholars say that the Romans continued to use this phrase following the wars with Carthage, not so much to indicate unknown ...
