AnsaldoBreda has been awarded the high-speed tender from Ferrovie dello Stato
The consortium formed by AnsaldoBreda and Bombardier (60% held by Ansaldo and the remainder by Bombardier) has been awarded the contract for supplying 50 high-speed trains to the Ferrovie dello Stato.
The result of the bidding was announced on 2 August at 2:30 PM upon the opening of the envelopes in the presence of the representatives of the two bidders in the Trenitalia headquarters in Rome. The offer that received the most points was chosen as the winner. The actual contract award was then ratified at the end of the Ferrovie dello Stato’s Board of Directors meeting. Moreover, several international companies also participated in the bidding, among which the Japanese company Kawasaki and the German company Siemens, who later withdrew due to the complex technical specifications requested by the Italian railway group.
“We are very proud to have been awarded the tender from Trenitalia – said Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, Chairman and CEO of Finmeccanica - which confirms the quality of our products and of the industrial processes that we are implementing, and also bears testimony to the excellence we have achieved through working for major customers worldwide. This contract is a an important opportunity for AnsaldoBreda as it reconfirms its role in both the national and international markets and sets a solid foundation for the future.
AnsaldoBreda is able to provide Trenitalia with the latest high-speed technology and is able to compete with the main operators in the sector. The V300 ZEFIRO will allow us to play a key role in the development of the high-speed network in Italy and abroad: the new train is fast, reliable, offers sound operating efficiency and good value in terms of fuel consumption and running costs”.
