Alenia Aermacchi

Conceived by Alenia Aermacchi as a technology demonstrator for a Medium Altitude, Long Endurance (MALE) surveillance UAV, the Sky-Y will develop enabling technologies for autonomous flight and data collection and distribution capabilities. 

Sky-Y has an all-composite structure, integrated surveillance sensors, advanced datalinks and a diesel engine of automotive derivation giving it up to 12 hours' endurance. 

The Sky-Y has already completed three flight-test cycles, setting the European endurance record for UAVs in the over one-ton category. It has already proved it autonomous take-off, flight and landing characteristics, as well as tested the Selex Galileo EOST-45 surveillance sensor and the integration of the new tactical control station.
