ANSALDO STS works in two areas of design, construction, operation and maintenance respectively signalling and traffic control systems and turnkey railway and metro transport systems in which signalling systems are of fundamental importance.
 
Headquartered in Genoa, Ansaldo STS has more than 4350 employees in 28 countries and incorporates the know-how, excellence and technological competences of leading companies operating in the international markets such as Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari(I), Ansaldo Segnalamento Ferroviario(I), Union Switch & Signal (USA and CSEE Transport (F).

In 2008, it had revenues totaling €1.106 billion, with a gross operating margin of €118 million and consolidated net profit of €77.6 million.
