Ansaldo Signal has been offering ATC systems throughout signalling evolution, ranging from the simplest intermittent type to the semi-continuous and fully continuous integrated type.

The features of these systems are tailored to the Client's requirements for a railway or metro application, and according to the data transmission type. In all cases, the system automatically enforces a speed limit which is consistent with the circulation conditions ahead (block conditions) and, in specified circumstances, also enforce a penalty train stop with full brake application.

Modern versions consist of three computerized subsystems (ATP, ATS and ATO) coordinated at a higher level.
