The ETR 500 Politensione features new generation locomotives to satisfy recent stricter requirements; the electric power part of the locomotive can be powered with three different voltages (3kV, 25kV and 1500 V).
 
Each train can transport 590 passengers in 1st and 2nd class carriages; all fitted with toilets and air conditioning. In the centre of the train is a restaurant carriage with a dining room seating 30 people; on the other side is a wide bar.
 
 
The definition of the passenger environment was carried out in cooperation with Pininfarina. All the seats are reclining and fitted with individual light and sound systems.
