Space Alliance - Finmeccanica-Thales Agreement | |
Mr P. F. Guarguaglini - Chairman and CEO of Finmeccanica
I am delighted to inform you that the European Commission approved the
transfer to the Thales Group of the Alcatel-Lucent Space business. Thus, the
"new Space Alliance" - comprising the Space activities of Finmeccanica
and Thales - is today a reality.
The implementation of this agreement represents a crucial step for us. Space is
seen by both, Finmeccanica and Thales, as a strategic core business, that we
intend to develop in quality and size, by sharing deeply the same vision of its
future. Furthermore, we consider that the complementary strengths of Telespazio
in satellite services and of our other joint venture - to be renamed Thales
Alenia Space - in satellite manufacturing are a highly valuable asset,
beneficial for the two companies and for their shareholders and likely to
enhance the competitiveness of the European Space sector as a whole.
We intend to exploit fully such an advantage by establishing a close
cooperation between Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio, based on consistent
knowledge-sharing and reciprocal support in all their main strategic and
commercial endeavours.
We can assure you that we will use these new assets to the benefit of our
customers and partners, by enhancing further our technological expertise and
our commitment to quality and reliability.
Pier Francesco Guarguaglini
