Building one's future, especially for young people, is probably one of the
greatest adventures that life can offer. There are few more exciting things
than imagining one's life and then setting out to achieve it, investing hope
and energy to make one's dreams come true. Building the future is also Finmeccanica's task to some extent - a path naturally determined by its inclination towards high technology and everything that is new. The awareness that innovation - and technology - are first and foremost a question of people, has led to the idea of the scholarship that Finmeccanica has set up together with the US-Italy Fulbright Commission. For sixty years - the same age that Finmeccanica reaches in this period - the Fulbright Commission has been acting as a bridge across the Atlantic leading to knowledge, and enabling more than 7,000 Italian and American scholarship-holders to stand out in many fields. Starting with the 2009-2010 academic year, the Fulbright-Finmeccanica scholarship will enable one student a year to attend a master's course in scientific and technological disciplines lasting two years at a US university. Requirements for the scholarship are Italian citizenship, a degree (taken under the old system or under the new one) and an excellent knowledge of English, shown by a high score on the TOEFL exam (www.toefl.org). Graduating within three calendar years of the deadline for applications - that is, 5 May 2008 - represents a head-start in the "race" for the Fulbright-Finmeccanica scholarship, which amounts to 80,000 USD with a further 1,500 euros for roundtrip travel expenses and for carrying out the procedures (through the Institute of International Education) for admission to the US university. The study fields for the master's course can cover a wide range of scientific and technological disciplines, from physics to mathematics, from computer engineering to electronics, from mechanical engineering to business engineering, to name just a few. Full details of the scholarship competition are given on the website: www.fulbright.it/ITA/fulbright_finmeccanica.asp together with instructions for applying. The rest depends on the merit and the determination of the students who will take up the challenge in which Finmeccanica is investing, with the conviction - reinforced by an anniversary in which the strength of its roots is seen as an occasion for looking ahead - that commitment, talent and knowledge are the basic ingredients for true growth. ![]() |
