EUR 9 billion contract signed for 112 Eurofighter Typhoons Around EUR 3 billion of the contract value pertains to Finmeccanica | |
Finmeccanica is pleased to announce today that NETMA (NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency), Eurofighter GmbH and EUROJET Turbo GmbH have signed today a further production contract for the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. The contract, worth a total of EUR 9 billion, relates to a third tranche production for 112 aircraft, including 241 engines, for the four partner nations: Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
EUR 3 billion of the contract value pertains to Finmeccanica and includes the industrial activities relating to the multi-role fighter aircraft that are carried out in Italy (around EUR 1.6 billion) and the UK (around EUR 1.4 billion). The Group's participation in the Eurofighter programme's industrial activities amounts to around 36% (excluding engines), and it plays an important role in defining, designing, developing and producing the aerostructure, systems integration and avionics for the aircraft.
"The signing of this contract - commented Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, Finmeccanica Chairman and CEO - is further confirmation of the soundness of the Group's strategy of investing in technologies able to generate significant business volumes and revenues. The agreement is also very important for Italy and the UK, which represent two of the Group's three domestic markets, alongside the US".
The contract for the third tranche of the programme confirms the Eurofighter Typhoon as the bestselling defence aircraft on the market, with 559 units under production contract, including 15 for Austria and 72 for Saudi Arabia. Having already secured these two export contracts, Eurofighter Typhoon will continue to follow up all further export opportunities.
The Eurofighter and Eurojet Turbo consortia and their partner companies are actively pursuing campaigns in Switzerland, India, Japan, Romania, Greece and Turkey, as well as exploring possible opportunities in South Korea, Bulgaria, Croatia and other countries.
