There have been fourteen editions of "Sat Expo Europe", the international space and advanced telecommunications exhibition. After thirteen years in Vicenza, where it first started, the fourteenth edition was held in Rome at the city's futuristic new exhibition centre. The change is a move towards expansion for an event that gained the title of international trade fair in 2004. And in fact, the first Roman edition, March 27-29, welcomed delegations from many countries in the Mediterranean area.
 
The exhibition's new venue is significant from the strategic point of view. As the organisers point out, Europe is one of the major players in the space sector, and Rome is the focal point of a 'space' district which includes some of the most dynamic industries in Italy and Europe, as well as being home to top-level film and TV production (one of the display sectors is on technologies linked to cinema and TV).
 
For reasons of geography, economy and culture, Rome also acts a sort of bridge towards the Mediterranean. For Sat Expo Europe, therefore, the city is the ideal location for an event that is constantly growing and which focuses not only on developments in the aerospace sector but also on technical and scientific research.
 
Since Finmeccanica is deeply involved in these research and development fields, the Group took part in the exhibition with five companies connected in various ways to the space business and advanced telecommunications: Alenia Aeronautica, SELEX Communications, SELEX GALILEO, Telespazio, and Thales Alenia Space.
 
The main exhibition sectors are: space research and exploration, navigation systems and Earth observation, advanced telecommunications, broadcasting and HD digital TV, and electronic healthcare systems. Finmeccanica displayed more than twenty products and services ranging from satellite navigation to Earth observation, giving visitors a broad overview of its activities and the production assets of a European leader in satellite and space services.
