Finmeccanica at the Rimini Meeting

23.8 - 29.08.2009

Rimini
This year Finmeccanica was once again the main sponsor of the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples, organized by Comunione e Liberazione, held from August 23-29 at the Rimini congress centre.

"Knowledge is always an event" was the theme of the thirtieth edition of this meeting which, over the years, has welcomed thousands of people, especially the young, and seen hundreds of speakers from all over the world discussing culture, religion, politics, sport and industry.

As usual, institutions were well represented and many political figures took part including Renato Schifani, Mario Draghi and Giulio Tremonti, Angelino Alfano, Maurizio Sacconi, Claudio Scajola, Mara Carfagna, Mariastella Gelmini, Roberto Calderoli and Luca Zaia, Pierluigi Bersani and Enrico Letta. The event was also an opportunity to hear experts from the fields of economics and finance such as Corrado Passera, James Murdoch, Fabio Conti and Raffaele Bonanni.

Amongst the many speakers, the Group was represented by Roberto Adinolfi (CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare and member of the Governing Board of the European Nuclear Technological Platform) who took part in the discussion "Nuclear energy: a sustainable path for our country?" and Giovanni Bertolone (CEO of Alenia Aeronautica), guest speaker in the session on "People are the focus for companies".

Finmeccanica had a 300sqm stand displaying the products of AgustaWestland, Alenia Aeronautica, AnsaldoBreda, Ansaldo Energia, Ansaldo STS and Telespazio. There was also the Finmeccanica Store, where visitors had the chance to buy clothing and other items, helping to support the Mwana Simba solidarity project which aims to train young people in the Congo, Cameroon and Nigeria.

On the stand, there was a long queue of visitors eager to try out Alenia Aeronautica's Sky Y Simulator which shows the conditions seen at the ground station for remote control of the Sky Y-UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), for medium-altitude surveillance and extended autonomy (12 hours).

Visitors also had the chance to see the motorised bogey for the new AnsaldoBreda high-speed train for Belgium and Holland, which will connect Amsterdam and Brussels with trains running at a top speed of 250 km/h. This Italian-designed project fully complies with European interoperability regulations/standards (TSI), and the trains can circulate freely throughout Europe, regardless of the railway systems used.
