Finmeccanica took part in the seventh edition of LAAD - Latin America Aero and Defence - which was held at the Riocentro convention centre in Rio de Janeiro from 14 to 17 April 2009.

Finmeccanica has had an active role in the Brazilian defence market since 1970 supplying equipment, systems and services. These have included the AMX tactical support aeroplane, the MB-326 advanced training aircraft, helicopters, military and civil radar systems, Aspide missiles, avionic systems, fire control systems, communication systems and satellite telecommunication services.

Various Group companies are present in Brazil, such as SELEX Communication do Brasil, Telespazio do Brasil and AgustaWestland do Brasil. Moreover, a SELEX Sistemi Integrati office will be opening there shortly. The company stand also displayed top-notch products by Oto Melara and by Thales Alenia Space.

The LAAD event is held every two years and is deemed one of Latin America's foremost exhibitions in the field of defence and security. This year it hosted more than 330 exhibitors from over thirty countries in an exhibition space totalling 32,000 m². There were 45 visiting delegations coming from 43 countries.
