Technological innovation, research and development, but also constant
attention to solidarity and integration - these are all part of the
Finmeccanica Group, which has promoted innumerable cultural, scientific, social
and sports activities over the years. It is in this spirit that Finmeccanica is happy to announce an important event, one that includes solidarity, sport and the sense of teamwork amongst its employees. The semi-finals and finals of the Second International Football Tournament organised by the Finmeccanica Group will be held on October 11 and 12 in Rome. The teams on the field will be from Tuscany, Puglia, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Liguria (representing Group companies in those regions). On Friday October 12, the Italian Army sports stadium "Caserma Silvano Abba", Cecchignola (Rome), will be the setting for the grand final of the Finmeccanica football tournament. This will be followed by a friendly match between the "Club Italia" team made up of Italian football stars and a Finmeccanica team with representatives from several Group companies. This celebration of sport and solidarity will also be an occasion to make a contribution to the Andrea Tudisco Association which runs a children's home named after Andrea (Casa di Andrea e di tutti i fiorellini nel mondo). It is a non-profit organization that promotes actions to improve the quality of life for young people afflicted with serious illnesses, as well as supporting their families. During the event, everyone will have the chance to make a donation by purchasing T-shirts with "Casa di Andrea" printed on them. The money collected will help the non-profit organization to complete the restructuring of the children's home, a building donated by the Rome City Council to accommodate the children and their families. The "Casa di Andrea" is situated in Rome's Bellosguardo Park where a number of projects are taking place to help children. The building is being restructured with the help of companies like Finmeccanica who are sensitive to social issues and who "adopt" part of the project, signing the various areas which they have helped to renovate. The event will be a festival of music, sport and entertainment for the children, with the participation of the "Clown Doctors" from the Andrea Tudisco Association. Finmeccanica is happy to celebrate the event with its employees and all those who wish to give their support to the children of the Andrea Tudisco Association. Andrea Tudisco Association The "Andrea Tudisco" voluntary non-profit organization was set up in 1997 as a committee of people who, for five years, had gathered around little Andrea Tudisco and his parents Fiorella and Nicola. In May 1992, Andrea was diagnosed with leukaemia and spent a long period in the "Bambino Gesù Hospital" in Rome where the first tests and treatment were carried out. Andrea was a lively, intelligent and very sociable child. Obviously he did not like the restraints imposed upon him. Like all the children in his ward, he wanted to play, read, watch television and eat ice cream, just like all the other kids. His parents and friends had organized a series of initiatives to make his life as happy and normal as possible. Naturally, this was not limited to Andrea but to all the friends he had made during his time in hospital. Unfortunately, in August 1997, the illness took Andrea away from his loved ones. His family and the group of friends who stood by Andrea and his parents wanted to carry on their activities so they formed a committee to take advantage of the experience they had gained. They decided to take direct action by setting up support activities for State-run hospitals and clinics, and by promoting initiatives that were not provided by the National Health Service at the time. Their intention was to assist those suffering and battling for their lives. Today, the Andrea Tudisco Association is well-established in the field of voluntary work, providing a wide variety of services in support of children and their families. Among its honorary members, the non-profit organization includes scientific journalist Piero Angela, the head of the child neuro-surgical department of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Prof. Concezio Di Rocco, champion motorcyclist Max Biaggi, television host Fabrizio Frizzi and showman Fiorello.
